Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Falls At Home Against Diplomats

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—A string of four goals across the third and fourth quarter of Saturday's men's lacrosse game pulled Swarthmore within one goal of the Franklin & Marshall Diplomats with 12:58 to play. However, the visiting Diplomats pulled away down the stretch to take the Centennial Conference opener 15-9.

Austin Chang led the Garnet with a hat trick, his second of the season. Cam Marsh tallied a pair of goals and Ryan Mulvey, Griffin Johnston, Zander Levitz and Jake Ross all score once as well.

Between the pipes, Cole Fox turned away 13 shots on goal, a season high. Franklin & Marshall took 45 shot attempts to Swarthmore's 25.

Swarthmore held a 13-4 advantage on faceoffs through the first three quarters and held on for a 15-11 faceoff advantage.

Swarthmore fell behind 4-0 in the first before finally breaking through with an Austin Chang goal from the doorstep with six seconds left. Seven seconds into the second the Garnet scored again with Chang connecting to Ross for the score. Then the Garnet won another faceoff and took it to the house. Nick Fillipelli corralled the ground ball off the faceoff and zipped a pass to Levitz for the score with just 30 seconds elapsed in the quarter.

F&M responded with a string of three goals of there own, but Swarthmore struck just before the half. In the final seconds, in a man-up situation and contemplating holding the ball to start off the third quarter with possession, Swarthmore decided to attack and scored with 0.9 seconds on the clock. Mulvey found Chang for the shot and the score to send Swarthmore into the break down 7-4.

The F&M lead ballooned to 9-4 in the third, but the Garnet scored four straight, including two more man-up goals. However, the Garnet couldn't close the gap as F&M went on a 6-1 run to finish the game. F&M's Sean Rogers scored three of the final goals en route to a game-high seven tallies.

Swarthmore is back in action on Saturday at Ursinus College.

The Garnet welcomed back members of the 1957 men's lacrosse team that went 9-1.
