TOWSON, Md.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse improved to 5-0 with a 9-4 win at Goucher College on Wednesday night. The 5-0 start to a season is the Garnet's best opening since 2009.
The Garnet held a 3-2 lead at halftime and then poured it on in the second, outscoring the hosting Gophers 6-2. Swarthmore scored twice in the first 47 seconds of the second period and had five goals in the first five minutes to build a comfortable lead.
Briana Narzikul led the Garnet with three goals.
Elizabeth Wainwright and
Sydnie Schwarz posted a pair of goals.
Tess Wild and
Taylor Chiang added a goal as well.
Wild recorded a game-high five draw controls, and Swarthmore won the draw category 11-3.
Swarthmore kept Goucher's goalies on their toes, slinging 38 total shots and 26 on goal. The Garnet kept Goucher away from goal for most of the game, only allowing nine shot attempts.
Betsy Cohen got the win in goal for the Garnet.
Swarthmore begins the Centennial Conference on Saturday with a home game against No. 4 Franklin & Marshall.
