CLAREMONT, Calif.–A split squad of the 29th-ranked Swarthmore College men's tennis team fell in two matches on Thursday, March 9 as the Garnet lost 8-1 to Cerritos College and conceded 7-2 against sixth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
Against Cerritos,
Evan Han picked up the lone win at fourth singles in a 2-6, 6-3, 1-0(8) battle. Junior
Michael Song nearly joined him in the winner's column, but ultimately fell 4-6, 7-5, 0-1(4) at the second singles spot.
In the nightcap at CMS, the Garnet took a 2-1 lead after doubles, but were unable to carry the momentum into singles play.
Ari Cepelewicz and
Thomas Vernier won 8-5 at second doubles while
John Larkin and
Blake Oetting fought to an 8-6 victory at third doubles.
Swarthmore continues Spring Break with another pair of matches today. The Garnet play Glendale and No. 9 Pomona-Pitzer at 1 and 2 p.m. PST, respectively.
