SWARTHMORE, Pa.–The Swarthmore College women's tennis team opened the spring portion of its schedule with a 7-2 loss to No. 30 NYU in the Mullan Tennis Center on Saturday, Feb. 25.
Freshman
Vivien Fernandez and senior
Alli Wong had a strong showing in the first doubles spot, dispatching their opponents by an 8-1 count. The visiting Violets took a 2-1 lead into singles competition and won five of the six courts for the final margin. Fernandez became a double winner on the afternoon with a commanding, 6-4, 6-0 victory at third singles.
Sophomore
Arya Jemal was edged out by a 5-7, 4-6 count at sixth singles and classmate
Julia Gokhberg nearly forced her match to a third set before falling in a tiebreaker.
Swarthmore resumes competition on Monday, March 6 over spring break when it travels to Georgetown, Texas to face Southwestern.
