Garnet Claim Centennial Tournament Top Seed

HAVERFORD, Pa.—With a road win over local rival Haverford College on Wednesday night, No. 21 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball locked up the top seed in the Centennial Conference postseason. Swarthmore (20-4, 14-3 Centennial) topped the Haverford College Fords (3-21, 2-15) by a score of 86-63.

As the top seed in the tournament, the Garnet will host the semifinal rounds and the championship game on Feb. 24 and 25.

Swarthmore never trailed in Wednesday's contest and led by as many as 32 points in the second half. The Garnet only shot 27.3 percent from 3-point range (6-for-22) but shot 51.7 percent from the field, 20 percent better than the Fords.

Three Garnet players reached double digits in scoring with sophomore Cam Wiley leading the way with 22 points. Wiley went 9-for-15 (60 percent) from the floor. Robbie Walsh chipped in 15 points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Zack Yonda scored 12 points and had six boards.

Freshmen Zac O'Dell and Nate Shafer added nine points each.

Swarthmore started the game on a 7-0 run and later compounded its lead with a 10-0 spurt midway through the first that made it 24-6. The Garnet led 43-27 going into the second half. Swarthmore held a 12-point lead with 10 minutes to go in the second and then scorched the Fords with a 13-0 run over the next three-and-a-half minutes. With 4:15 to go freshman Tyler Pasko knocked down a triple to bump Swarthmore's lead to a game-high 32 points.

The Garnet close out the regular season on Saturday at Franklin & Marshall College at 3 p.m.
