LANCASTER, Pa.—No. 21 Swarthmore College closed out the regular season on the road at Franklin & Marshall College on Saturday. The Garnet slipped 93-66 to the Diplomats in a game that doesn't affect them in the conference standings, having already locked up the top seed. Swarthmore's opponent in the semifinals on Friday night will be the winner of Wednesday's Johns Hopkins (4) and Ursinus (5) game. Franklin & Marshall will be the second seed and Dickinson the third.
Cam Wiley led the Garnet with 16 points off the bench, scoring all four of his field goals from beyond the 3-point arc.
Chris Bourne dropped in 15 points on an efficient 7-for-9 (77.8 percent).
Nate Shafer and
Zack Yonda each added nine points.
The Garnet out-rebounded the Diplomats by one, 27-26, shot 46.4 percent from the floor and only committed 14 turnovers. The home team, however, shot a blistering 65 percent from 3-point range (13-for-20) and a season-high 61.8 percent (34-for-55) from the field. The Diplomats' second-half numbers were even more absurd: 75.8 percent from the field, 87.5 percent from beyond the arc and 100 percent from the free-throw line.
F&M's J.C. McGrath scored a game-high 24 points, shooting 10-for-10 from the floor.
The Garnet get the chance to defend their home court on Friday night in the Centennial Conference Semifinals. The start time will be announced on Monday.
