Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Garnet Sprint Past Framingham

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—No. 15 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball jumped to a 20-0 lead at home on Saturday en route to a 80-48 win over Framingham State.

The Garnet had a lethal combination of an inside-outside game working on Saturday. Only four of Swarthmore's 69 field goal attempts were two-point jump shots; the remaining 65 attempts were either in the paint or 3-pointers. Swarthmore pounded its way to 42 points in the paint and knocked down 11-of-26 shots from long distance. Throughout the game, the Garnet appeared to be very effective at slipping behind Framingham's defense for a backdoor path to the basket.

Leading the way for the Garnet was Nate Shafer who posted 16 points and eight rebounds. Cam Wiley chipped in 14 points with six assists and six rebounds. Jim Lammers and Ryan Ingram posted 12 points and 11 points, respectively.
For the Framingham St. Rams, Manny Payton scored a team-high 20 points on 6-of-17 shooting.

Swarthmore had its second-best rebounding margin of the season, out-rebounding the visitors 44-24. The Garnet's top rebounding margin this season was against Muhlenberg (+23).

Saturday was the second time this year that Garnet have opened a game with a 20-0 lead. The first time was at Dickinson College on Dec. 2.

After taking a 20-point advantage, Swarthmore's lead never dipped below 20 the rest of the game and it reached as high as 41 points in the second half.

Swarthmore hits the road to open the new year. The Garnet play at Middlebury College in Vermont on Tuesday.

Middlebury, currently ranked No. 2 in the nation, is coming off a loss against No. 25 York College (Pa.), who beat Swarthmore on Dec. 13.
