CARLISLE, Pa.–Although the Swarthmore College women's basketball team outscored the Dickinson Red Devils by a 43-31 margin in the second half, it was unable to come away with a road win as it fell by a 69-58 score on Saturday, Dec. 2.
The Garnet shot 50 percent in the second half and committed only four turnovers while forcing 11 on the other end.
Isabelle Ewart poured in 11 points without missing a shot in the third and fourth quarters and
Audra Woodside scored 10 of her 13 points over that span.
Raina Williams contributed 11 points on the afternoon as the third Swarthmore player to hit double figures. The Garnet grabbed 15 offensive rebounds and capitalized on the second chances to the tune of 15 points.
Swarthmore trailed 38-15 after two frames as it struggled to find its shot. Early in the third, Williams and
Abigail Pirron jump started the offense with five and four points, respectively. Ewart scored on consecutive possessions for five points and forced the hosts to take a timeout.
Bridget Scott followed up with three points of her own and two free throws by
Abigail Posta cut the deficit to 15, which the Red Devils maintained entering the fourth.
In the final frame, Swarthmore nearly trimmed Dickinson's lead to single digits on several occasions. With 4:10 remaining, Woodside hit a jumper to make it 61-51 and Ewart later scored for a 63-53 game. The Red Devils, however, were able to find an answer and kept the Garnet at bay with a pair of free throws down the stretch.
The women's basketball team plays its last game before Winter Break on Wednesday, Dec. 6 at 8 p.m. against Ursinus.
