Garnet Open Game With 20 Straight Points In Win

CARLISLE, Pa.—No. 12 Swarthmore College Men's Basketball won the rematch of the 2016-17 Centennial Conference Championship, beating the Dickinson College Red Devils 78-66.

The Red Devils (4-2 overall, 2-1 Centennial) entered Saturday's game on a four-game win streak which included a win over No. 14 Christopher Newport University (the team that eliminated Swarthmore in last year's NCAA Tournament). Swarthmore, 6-0 to start the season, was the team to get off to a hot start on Saturday, running out to a 20-0 lead to start the game. Dickinson's first basket finally came at 12:22 in the first half.

Four players scored double digits for Swarthmore, and for the first time this season, sophomore Nate Shafer led the team in scoring, netting 18 points. Shafer did so while shooting 81.8 percent from the floor (9-for-11) and grabbing 10 rebounds for the double-double.

Cam Wiley posted 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting. Ryan Ingram added 11 points and Zack Yonda 10.

Robbie Walsh pulled down a game-high 11 of Swarthmore's 40 rebounds. The Garnet limited the Red Devils to 21 boards.

Forty-four of Swarthmore's points came in the paint while Dickinson only scored 10 points in the lane.

Mike Hinkley led the hosts with 14 points. Dickinson shot 38.9 percent from the floor.

The Garnet capitalized on 31-of-53 attempts from the floor for a 58.5 percent shooting rate.
