SWARTHMORE, Pa.–Three players scored in double figures as the Swarthmore College women's basketball team fell, 78-50, to the visiting Johns Hopkins Blue Jays on Thursday, Nov. 30.
Elizabeth Stiles and
Christina Holmgren (5-of-8 shooting) contributed 11 points apiece while
Audra Woodside added 10. Swarthmore finished with its lowest turnover total of the season and collected 14 rebounds on the offensive glass, compared to Hopkins' 11.
Abigail Posta led the Garnet with seven boards and Woodside was close behind with six.
The Jays turned in a strong first quarter to create early separation from the hosts. In the second, Swarthmore chipped away at its deficit as Stiles and
Abigail Pirron netted baskets and
Raina Williams converted a free throw for a 5-0 run. At the break, Hopkins held a 47-28 advantage.
Another 5-0 run came in the third on a Holmgren jumper and a trey from
Isabelle Ewart, but the Garnet could not close the gap further as Johns Hopkins later countered with seven consecutive points.
The women's basketball team looks to pick up its first conference win when it travels to Dickinson on Saturday, Dec. 2 for a 2:00 p.m. contest.
