SWARTHMRORE, Pa.–The Swarthmore College women's basketball team fell by a 69-37 score to the visiting Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) Tigers on Saturday, Nov. 18.
A scoreless drought in the first and second quarters proved to be the difference-maker in the game. For the Garnet,
Abigail Pirron scored nine points and
Audra Woodside was right behind with eight.
Raina Williams grabbed eight rebounds with three coming in quick succession on the offensive glass.
Swarthmore found some offensive footing toward the middle of the second quarter. Woodside made three baskets while Williams drained two jumpers to pace the offense. The Garnet trailed, 36-15, at the break.
Unfortunately for the hosts, a strong third quarter by the Tigers gave them a 33-point lead entering the final frame. In the fourth, Swarthmore started with four unanswered on the scoreboard and outscored RIT by a 14-13 margin.
Abigail Posta made back-to-back baskets at one point and
Elizabeth Stiles converted two free throws with 20 seconds remaining to provide the final score.
The women's basketball team travels to Washington College for its conference opener on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at 6 p.m.
