Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Garnet Contain No. 9 Blue Jays In Draw

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer kept the No. 9 Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays off the scoreboard in an important Centennial Conference match on Saturday evening. The Garnet, with Saturday's 0-0 stalemate, are only the second team to keep the Blue Jays (11-1-1, 4-0-1 Centennial) from scoring this season.

Both teams created scoring opportunities with Hopkins taking 22 shots and Swarthmore with 11 attempts and three on goal.

Oliver Steinglass recorded seven saves and got the decision in net for the Garnet, who at 2-0-2 in Centennial play remain unbeaten.

The Garnet went after the Blue Jays early, with Michael Nafziger getting a dangerous header off in the fifth minute that sailed just wide of the right post.

In the second half, the Garnet got back-to-back shots on goal. Joey Bradley ripped a shot from long range that was deflected off target with a diving save. A minute later in the 74th minute, Tommy Sheehan got his right foot free up top and curled a shot towards the far post but was likewise denied.

In the second overtime, Joe Barile chased down the ball about 40 yards from goal and won possession before Hopkins' defenders or goalkeeper could reach the ball. Barile, seeing the net open launched a shot, but the attempt went a little too high.

Omri Gal had a shot on goal in the 110th minute, but neither team could break the deadlock.

Swarthmore resumes conference play on Wednesday at home against Franklin & Marshall College for a 7 p.m. tilt.
