SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer was dealt its first Centennial Conference loss on Wednesday evening, falling 1-0 against the Franklin & Marshall College Diplomats.
Swarthmore tallied eight shots and five on frame in the setback. Swarthmore dipped to 2-1-2 in Centennial Conference play while Franklin & Marshall improved to 4-1.
Oliver Steinglass recorded five saves for the Garnet. In total, the Diplomats fired off 18 shot attempts. The visitors recorded seven corner kicks while Swarthmore had zero.
F&M tagged the Garnet with a goal in the 12th minute. Steinglass dove to save a shot rocketed in by F&M's Ben Draheim, but the shot rebounded away from Steinglass and was slid in behind his feet by Jason Tonelli for the game's only goal.
The Garnet took one shot on goal in the first half, a header by Francis Eddy Harvey, but had more chances in the second. Woojin Shin, Joe Barile and Tommy Sheehan all put shots on goal in the second half.
Swarthmore returns to play on the road on Saturday, facing McDaniel College at 1 p.m.
