Swarthmore shut down the Catholic attack with 11.5 total blocks and limited the Cardinals to a .056 hitting percentage.
Mehra den Braven swung 12 kills and was one of four Garnet players to reach double figures in digs, joining
Elise Cummings (13),
Sarah Girard (12) and
Guin Mesh (11).
Bridget Scott and
Malia Scott each contributed five block assists and the latter handed out 34 assists as Swarthmore hit .250. Senior

Morgan-Bennett factored into all of five of Swarthmore's blocks in the first set and added two kills as part of a balanced attack. On the other side of the net, Catholic struggled with a -.051 hitting mark, but were able to come within two late in the set at 16-18. The Garnet forced a timeout with a 4-0 run and closed out the set with a
Bridget Scott kill.
Catholic had no answer for the hosts in the second as they hit .424, led by six kills from den Braven. Swarthmore never trailed and took the first five points to set an early tone. The third set was more competitive as the Cardinals looked to force a fourth, leading 20-19. Swarthmore regrouped and surged ahead with two kills and a block from Morgan-Bennett to reach match point. Catholic saved one, but committed a service error shortly afterward to seal its fate.
The volleyball team continues action in the Garnet Quad Tournament at Tarble Pavilion with matches against Neumann (10 AM) and Eastern (4 PM) on Saturday, Oct. 7.
