SWARTHMORE, Pa.–In its final home game of the season, the Swarthmore College field hockey fell by a 2-1 score to the visiting Muhlenberg College Mules on Wednesday, Oct. 25.
Freshman
Ali Baratta netted her third goal of the season in the 54th minute as the Garnet cut their 2-0 deficit in half. Baratta collected the ball after a deflected shot from
Halsey Hutchinson and drove it home in the left side of the net.
Trailing by just one goal, the Swarthmore attack pressed.
Clare Perez registered a shot on goal at 62:59 and
Samie Martin put one toward net in the waning seconds of the match, but neither could find the equalizer.
Muhlenberg put the first point on the board toward the end of the first half with a similar rebound situation. In the second,
Zelda Bank was tested early, making three of her eight saves in a span of five minutes. The Mules appeared to double their lead before the goal was disallowed due to dangerous play. Minutes later, Muhlenberg scored in earnest and would not relinquish its lead for the remainder of the game. Swarthmore led, 8-7, in penalty corners, but were outshot by a 17-10 margin.
The field hockey team concludes the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 28 with a road tilt at Haverford with Hood Trophy points on the line. The game is scheduled for 3 p.m.
