SWARTHMORE, Pa.—No. 23 Swarthmore College Women's Soccer shutout the visiting Gettysburg College Bullets 2-0 on Saturday evening. With the win, their seventh shutout of the year, the Garnet improved to 12-3 overall and 6-2 in the Centennial Conference and clinched a playoff berth in the process.
The Bullets had been tied with the Garnet in the conference standings entering Saturday's game, but dipped to 8-5-2 on the year and 5-3 in the conference.
Katie Dougherty and
Sophia Stills both scored a goal in the win. Swarthmore rattled off 22 shots and eight on goal while Gettysburg took six shots and two on goal.
Dougherty's goal came in the 17th minute after
Seneca Kinn-Gurzo slotted a nice through-ball up the right side to her. Dougherty chased down the ball, beat the last defender and pushed the shot past the keeper.
Stills netted her third goal of the season in the 80th minute to add an insurance goal for the Garnet. She wrestled away the ball from a defender and snapped off a left-footed shot from the 18 and in.
Amy Shmoys recorded two saves in the shutout win.
The Garnet wrap up the season next week with a mid-week game against Muhlenberg and a game against Haverford on Saturday.
