SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer honored its senior class on Saturday prior to a Centennial Conference matchup with the Gettysburg College Bullets.
The Garnet recognized the careers of Ryan Ward, Omodayo Origunwa, Michael Nafziger and Tommy Sheehan.
Unfortunately for the Garnet, the Bullets came away with the 3-1 win.
Omri Gal scored the lone Garnet goal, striking in the 63rd minute. Swarthmore took 11 shots in total and put three on goal.
In goal for the Garnet, Oliver Steinglass registered two saves, including a diving stop on a penalty kick in the second half.
The Bullets tallied their first goal in the seventh minute and held that 1-0 lead going into halftime. The Bullets drew a penalty kick in the first minute of the second half, but Steinglass dove left to deny the shot. Gettysburg would get their second goal in the 54th minute, sliding a cross from the left side behind the Garnet backline for a goal on the right side.
Swarthmore responded with Gal's goal in the 63rd minute. The Bullets failed to clear the ball out of the box and Gal recovered possession to the right of the goal. He fired off a shot and caromed it in off a defender, bringing Swarthmore within a goal.
About six minutes later, the Bullets pulled away with their third goal off a long ball from the backfield.
Swarthmore wraps up the season at Haverford College on Saturday at 3:30 PM.
