HAVERFORD, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer dropped the 2017 season finale 3-1 on Saturday at Haverford College. Swarthmore senior defender Ryan Ward tallied Swarthmore's goal, his first this season and second in his career.
The Garnet took 11 shots and registered eight of them on goal. Meanwhile, the Fords came away with five shots on goal and seven total.
The Fords picked up an early lead with Nick Jannelli's goal in the sixth minute, his 12th goal of the season. Janelli would record a brace, capping off Haverford's scoring in the 60th minute.
Haverford scored goal number two in the 21st minute, but Swarthmore responded in the 28th minute. Michael Nafziger was taken down on the right side of the penalty box leading to a Swarthmore penalty kick. Ward drove a low shot to the left past the reach of the diving keeper and into the side netting for the score.
Ward had a header saved five minutes later and the Garnet put two more shots on target in the rest of the first half. Swarthmore took three more shots on goal in the second half but couldn't catch the Fords.
The Garnet graduate four seniors at the conclusion of the 2017 season, sending off Michael Nafziger, Omodayo Origunwa, Ryan Ward and Tommy Sheehan.
