FREDERICKSBURG, Va.–In a grueling match that lasted nearly four hours, senior
Mark Fallati of the Swarthmore College tennis team battled to a 7-6(3), 4-6, 7-5 victory to advance to the championship singles semifinal at the ITA Southeast Regional for the second consecutive season.
Facing Chaz Downing of Carnegie Mellon, Fallati took the first set in a tiebreaker before facing a setback in the second. In the third, Downing captured an early break and led 4-2 with Fallati serving. The Swarthmore senior held and broke back to reach 4-4, but surrendered another break to give Downing a chance to serve for the match. Fallati, however, recovered by winning the next three games and will face CMU's Revanth Boppana on Monday at 9:30 a.m. with a chance to compete for the singles crown on the line.
A complete recap of all ITA singles and doubles action will appear on
www.swarthmoreathletics.com after the conclusion of the tournament on Monday.
