CHESTERTOWN, Md.–A 13-0 run by the Swarthmore College women's basketball team at the end of the game was not enough to put them over as the visiting Garnet suffered a 66-58 setback to the Washington College Shorewomen on Thursday, Jan. 26.
Lindsay O'Sullivan converted all nine of her free throw attempts and has now made 22 consecutive tries from the stripe over the last three games. The freshman forward also grabbed nine boards and led Swarthmore with 15 points as
Hayley Raymond was close behind with 14. The Garnet were dominant on the glass with a healthy 57-39 rebound margin and translated 26 offensive boards to 20 second-chance points.
A scoring drought in the first quarter put the visitors behind 14-7 after one, but the offense came alive in the second period. O'Sullivan netted nine with five free throws and
Abigail Pirron chipped in four on 2-of-3 shooting.
In the third quarter, the Shorewomen outscored the Garnet, 21-11, and took a 17-point lead into the fourth. The hosts led by 21 with 3:57 remaining in the game before Swarthmore unleashed a 13-0 streak to provide the final margin. Pirron and
