SWARTHMORE, Pa.–The Swarthmore College women's basketball team fell, 72-41, to the visiting Gettysburg Bullets on Saturday, Jan. 28.
Maggie O'Neil scored a game-high 16 points, including four three-pointers, and
Audra Woodside totaled 11 on 3-of-6 shooting. Guards
Elizabeth Stiles and
Hayley Raymond both scored seven on the afternoon.
Freshman
Abigail Posta grabbed nine rebounds as the Garnet were narrowly edged out by a 47-46 margin on the glass. Gettysburg took advantage of 19 turnovers for 21 points on the other end and netted 14 fast break points to Swarthmore's two.
Stiles converted a three-point play in the first quarter and O'Neil drained one from beyond the arc, but strong shooting by the visitors gave them a 25-10 advantage after one. Swarthmore was able to limit Gettysburg to nine points in the second frame, but struggled on offense with only seven points, including four made free throws from Woodside.
The Garnet put together a small, 6-0 run together in the fourth with a layup by Stiles and two Woodside makes before Gettysburg responded with a pair of treys for insurance.
Swarthmore remains at home for a conference tilt against the Muhlenberg Mules on Wednesday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m.
