SWARTHMORE, Pa.–The Swarthmore College women's basketball team was defeated by the Haverford College Fords, 67-44, on Wednesday, Jan. 18.
Sophomore
Audra Woodside was 5-of-7 for 11 points, all of which came in the second half, and freshman
Abigail Pirron scored eight for the Garnet. Forwards
Lindsay O'Sullivan and
Raina Williams each recorded a pair of blocks while
Elizabeth Stiles handed out four assists.
The Fords began the game on a 9-0 run and held the Garnet off the scoreboard until 3:34 remaining in the first quarter when Stiles converted a layup. Pirron scored four in the quarter as Haverford took a 16-7 advantage into the second.
A 7-0 run at the end of the first half gave Swarthmore a manageable 13-point deficit, but they could not stop the hot shooting of the Fords from behind the arc; Haverford converted five treys in the half to put the game away.
Swarthmore travels to Carlisle, Pa. on Saturday, Jan. 21 for a 2 p.m. game against Dickinson. The Red Devils won by a 72-51 score in the first meeting of the season.
