Women’s Soccer Rolls Past Widener

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Soccer cruised to a 4-0 victory on Wednesday evening, upping its nation-best shutout streak to 729 minutes and 58 seconds.

The Garnet, ranked No. 6 in the country this week, picked up two early goals on Wednesday against the Widener University Pride and never looked back. Hannah Lichtenstein, Brittany Weiderhold, Katie Dougherty and Marin McCoy all scored in the win.

Goalkeeper Amy Shmoys, making her second consecutive start, picked up her third win of the season. Shmoys recorded two saves in the win.

Lichtenstein scored her fourth goal of the season in the seventh minute, blasting a shot from beyond the 18 after stealing a throw-in along the right sideline.

The Garnet added another tally at the start of the 13th minute, deftly making one-touch passes up the right side and across the box. Quick passes from Miranda Saldivar and Dougherty set up Weiderhold's goal near the left post.

Swarthmore added one more before halftime, as Caroline Khanna launched a pass across the box to Dougherty who tapped the ball in with a header from close range.

The Garnet finished off the Pride with a goal in the 65th minute. Freshman Seneca Kinn-Gurzo found McCoy on the run past the back line and finished for her team-leading sixth goal.

Swarthmore resumes Centennial Conference play on Saturday at Dickinson College.
