Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Garnet Shut Out Hornets

NEWARK, N.J.—Swarthmore College Women's Soccer improved to 4-0 on Sunday following a 2-0 win against the Shenandoah University Hornets. The No. 12 Garnet have not allowed a goal through 370 minutes this season.

Sarah Hancock and Hannah Lichtenstein both recorded their second goals of the season in the win. Amy Shmoys went the distance between the posts, made three saves and earned her first win of the season. Shenandoah attempted just six shots in the entire game while Swarthmore took 17, including 12 on goal.

Following an official water break midway through the first half on the 90-plus degree day, Swarthmore earned a throw-in on the left sideline, even with the 18. Marin McCoy took the throw-in from the dirt infield adjacent to the sideline and hurled the ball into the center of the box. Caroline Khanna tapped the pass to an unmarked Sarah Hancock who drove home the goal from eight yards out.

The Garnet took the 1-0 lead into halftime and then added an insurance goal in the 57th minute. Hancock slid a pass from the midfield to McCoy who met the ball and dribbled to the left corner of the box. McCoy worked to the goal line and then crossed back into the middle of the box, finding the head of Lichtenstein who placed the ball into the upper right corner of the goal.

Swarthmore resumes play on the campus of Rutgers-Newark on Sunday with a 1 p.m. game against Frostburg St.
