Men's Soccer Slips Against Wesleyan

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer pulled within a goal of the visiting Wesleyan University Cardinals midway through the second half of Saturday's unseasonably warm contest. However, the Cardinals tacked on two more goals late to hold off the Garnet 4-1.

Michael Nafziger netted the Garnet's goal in the 67th minute burying a header following a cross from the left wing by Omodayo Origunwa.

Wesleyan's Garret Hardesty and Adam Cowie-Haskell each scored a pair of close-range goals.

Swarthmore's sophomore goalkeeper Michael Thut recorded two saves in the loss.

The Garnet took 13 shots to Wesleyan's 11 and had five shots on goal.

Wesleyan found the back of the net in the 12th minute, but Swarthmore kept them away from goal the rest of the first period. Billy Evers and Ryan Meuth register first-half shots on goal, but were denied.

In the second half, Wesleyan scored in the 61st minute. Swarthmore responded six minutes later with Nafziger's goal, his second in as many games. Wesleyan stymied Swarthmore's comeback attempt with goals in the 80th and 84th minutes.

Swarthmore (2-2) returns to the pitch on Wednesday at 7 p.m. with a home game against Eastern University.
