BOX SCOREGETTYSBURG, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Tennis powered past the Gettysburg College Bullets 8-1 on Friday night.
Swarthmore improved to 4-5 overall and 3-1 in Centennial play with the win. The Garnet won each flight except for No. 1 doubles.
Ashley Gao and
Rachel Bronkema captured an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles, and
Amanda Izes and
Arya Jemal toughed out an 8-6 win in third doubles.
With a 2-1 advantage from doubles, Swarthmore swept through singles, but not without some challenges.
Anna Scheibmeir took care of No. 3 singles 6-3, 6-1 and
Ashley Gao won No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-2.
Rachel Hechinger's first set at No. 6 singles was closer, 7-5, but she put her opponent away 6-1 in the second set and clinched the match victory for Swarthmore.
Shivani Gupta held on to win No. 5 singles, winning the first set tiebreak 7-2 and then rolling to a 6-2 win in set two.
Arya Jemal went three sets at No. 2, winning 6-0, 2-6, 6-4. In the top flight,
Julia Gokhberg dropped her first set in a tiebreak game, claimed set two in a 7-4 tiebreak, and then won the super tiebreaker 10-8.
Swarthmore plays at Ursinus College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
