SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Sophomore Kathryn Restrepo scored five goals on Wednesday night, including the tying goal with 18:44 that closed a three-goal gap for Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse against the visiting McDaniel College Green Terror. Briana Narzikul added a hat trick, scoring her third goal with 5:42 to play to again even the score. Less than two minutes later, McDaniel took the lead for good and slipped past the Garnet 12-11.
Restrepo's five goals give her 27 on the season, second-highest on the team behind Lizzie Kolln who scored her 28th goal of the year Wednesday. Narzikul registered her second hat trick in as many games and her third this season. She has 19 goals on the year. Shivani Chinnappan and Elizabeth Wainwright each tallied a goal as well.
Senior goalie Connie Bowen recorded eight saves in the setback.
The Garnet fell behind by three goals midway through the first half and still trailed by three, 9-6, at halftime.
Swarthmore bounced back in the second half with two early assisted goals by Restrepo and Chinnappan. A pair of goals from Restrepo at 20:56 and 18:44 evened the score at 10-10.
The Green Terror were awarded a free-position shot with 13:39 and converted it to regain the lead. McDaniel went 4-for-6 on free-position shots in the game. Swarthmore earned its second and final free-position attempt with 10:47 to play, but Emily Sokol's shot was saved and the Garnet were kept to 0-for-2 on the day.
With 5:42 remaining, Narzikul drove right through the middle of the fan, splitting two defenders and finishing the aggressive take with a close-range goal. Her tally evened the score at 11-11.
McDaniel scored with less than four minutes to play to take a 12-11 lead. The Green Terror won the resulting draw control and were able to stall until only 30 seconds remained because two Garnet players were sent to the sideline with yellow cards. Bowen forced a McDaniel turnover to give the Garnet one last chance to tie the score, but the opportunity never came to fruition.
