BOX SCORESWARTHMORE, PA - The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (3-5, 2-1 CC) dropped a 6-3 decision to 40th-ranked Washington College on Tuesday, April 5.
The Garnet notched one point in doubles play, as sophomores
Ashley Gao and
Rachel Bronkema prevailed over Krista Filiopoulos and Blair Kang, 8-4, at the No. 3 position. At No. 2, sophomore
Anna Scheibmeir and
Julia Gokhberg pushed their match to a tiebreak, but came up short, 9-8(0).
Trailing 1-2 going into singles action, Swarthmore recorded two additional wins; however the Shorewomen first took matches at Nos. 1, 2, 3 to clinch the victory. Scheibmeir earned a 4-6, 7-6(6), 1-0(6) win over Filiopoulos at the No. 4 position, and rounding out the lineup at No. 6, sophomore
Maria Cuervo triumphed against MP Hubert, 7-5, 6-2.
Swarthmore looks to bounce back this weekend, traveling to Gettysburg College on Saturday, April 9.
