BALTIMORE--The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (9-6, 8-2 CC) fell to 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins University by a 9-0 score, concluding regular season play on Saturday, April 30.
Junior
Alli Wong and sophomore
Maria Cuervo managed to notch two games in an 8-2 loss at no. 1, as did sophomores
Ashley Gao and
Rachel Bronkema at no. 3, but the Blue Jays ultimately took all three doubles points.
Although Johns Hopkins also went on to sweep singles, sophomores
Anna Scheibmeir and Bronkema kept it close at no. 4 and no. 5, respectively. Scheibmeir pushed her match against Anna Kankanala to a super tie break, losing narrowly 6-7(4), 6-2, 1-0(8). Bronkema fought but fell in straight sets to Olivia Kasten 7-5, 6-3.
The no. 3 seed Garnet will play in the semifinals of the Centennial Conference tournament against no. 2 Washington College at host Johns Hopkins University next Saturday, May 7.
