SWARTHMORE, Pa - The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (7-5) improved to 6-1 in the conference with a 9-0 shutout of Bryn Mawr College on Thursday, April 21.
Senior
Abby Schmidt partnered with sophomore
May Dong to score the first team point in doubles play, defeating Em Prozinski and Abby Brewster 8-3 at no. 3. Sophomore
Anna Scheibmeir and freshman
Julia Gokhberg followed at no. 2, blanking Mariam Haider and Kendall Baller, 8-0. Junior
Alli Wong and sophomore
Maria Cuervo completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at no. 1 over Melina Kovkoutchos and Lizzie Siegle.
The Garnet's success continued into singles play, where both Wong and freshman
Rachel Hechinger shut out their opponents, 6-0, 6-0. Wong earned her second win of the day at no. 1 against Kovkoutchos, while Hechinger quickly beat Prozinski at no. 5.
Sophomore
Rachel Bronkema defeated Baller 6-2, 6-2 to notch a point at no. 3, as freshman
Shivani Gupta also earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Haider at no. 4. Freshman
Amanda Izes recorded a 6-4, 6-0 decision at no. 6 versus Rosa Nanasi-Haas, and freshman
Arya Jemal won in a third set tiebreak against Siegle, 6-0, 5-7, 1-0(7).
Swarthmore will next host Dickinson College on Saturday, April 23. Play is slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Faulkner Courts.
