Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Strikes Twice Late In Win Over Cougars

DALLAS, Pa.—Tied 9-9 in the fourth quarter Saturday, Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse slipped past the Misericordia University Cougars with goals by Nathan Relich with 4:30 to play and then with just 17 seconds left.

Relich scored a game-high four goals as Swarthmore topped Misericordia 11-9 in non-conference play.

Freshman Griffin Johnston recorded his first collegiate hat trick and scored all three of the goals in the first half. Matt Johnson and Cam Marsh each added two goals. Marsh dealt out four assists, upping his team-leading total to 16 for the season.

Cole Fox earned the win as the netminder, recording nine saves.

Junior midfielder Stephen Ducey won 11-of-12 faceoffs, and Mike Selverian added another six faceoff wins.

Misericordia held a 2-1 lead in the second quarter, but Swarthmore blazed ahead with a string of five goals. Misericordia cut into the Garnet lead with 1:20 to go in the half, but Griffin Johnston completed his hat trick with 40 seconds left in the half and gave Swarthmore the 7-3 lead.

A 4-1 Misericordia swing in the third quarter gave Swarthmore little wiggle room. Just over a minute into the fourth, Johnson gave Swarthmore some insurance with an unassisted goal.

Misericordia struck back with consecutive goals, tying the game with 7:13 to play.

The Garnet avoided overtime and went ahead on Relich's goal with 4:30 to play that was set up by Marsh. Relich put the nail in the coffin with 17 seconds, scoring an unassisted goal.

Swarthmore (6-3) plays at nationally-ranked Gettysburg on Saturday.
