BOX SCORELANCASTER, Pa - The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (6-5 , 5-1 CC) recorded its third straight conference win against Franklin & Marshall College by a score of 6-3 on Saturday, April 16.
The Garnet first swept all three matches in doubles play. Sophomore
Anna Scheibmeir paired with freshman
Julia Gokhberg for a quick 8-4 victory over Tara Buchney and Sarah Haas at no. 2. Junior
Alli Wong and sophomore
Maria Cuervo also followed with an 8-4 win against Nicole Russo and Emily Gruenberg at no. 1. Closing it out at no. 3, sophomores
Ashley Gao and Bronkema defeated Gavriel Rubenein and Ally Breece in a tiebreak 9-8(3).
Wong became a double winner in singles play, allowing Buchney only one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at no. 2. Freshman
Arya Jemal came back from a 1-4 second set deficit to clinch the match for Swarthmore; she earned a 7-5, 6-4 win over Haas at no. 3. Cuervo also notched her second win of the day, beating Alex Collins 6-1, 6-2 at no. 6.
Conference play continues on Thursday, April 21 when the Garnet host Bryn Mawr College at 4:00 p.m.
