BOX SCORECOLLEGEVILLE, Pa – The Swarthmore College women's tennis team (5-5, CC 4-1) picked up a conference win against Ursinus College by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday, April 13.
The Garnet were swept in doubles action, though freshmen
Shivani Gupta and
Rachel Hechinger did force their match at no. 3 to a tiebreak, losing to Christina Palazzolo and Stephanie-Jane Seabra, 9-8(5).
Entering singles play, Swarthmore turned around the 0-3 deficit and took all of the next six matches in straight sets.
Sophomore
Anna Scheibmeir first blanked Ariel Danziger, 6-0, 6-0, at the no. 4 position. Following at no. 1 and no. 5, respectively, freshman
Julia Gokhberg and sophomore
Rachel Bronkema defeated Ashley Nguyen and Palazzolo by identical 6-3, 6-0 decisions. Freshman
Arya Jemal took the point at no. 3, earning a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Bevard, while junior
Alli Wong clinched the match for Swarthmore with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Bashaw. Rounding out the ladder at no. 6, freshman
Rachel Hechinger recorded a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Seabra.
The Garnet next travel to Lancaster on
Saturday, April 16 to face Franklin & Marshall College.
