MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.—The Swarthmore College baseball team (7-2) was handed its first two losses of the season on Wednesday, March 9 with 11-3 and 23-8 defeats to Penn State Berks.
Freshman
Nico Aldaco finished the afternoon with three hits and four runs, including the first home run of his Swarthmore career.
Joseph Jackson and
Wesley Fishburn also homered and
Roy Walker and
Conor Elliott each drove in two runs.
In game one, the Nittany Lions jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings before the Garnet put a run on the board with Charlie Levitt's RBI-single. Penn State added five more runs behind two home runs and put the game away.
In the second game of the afternoon, the Garnet took a 3-0 lead as Walker doubled to bring in Aldaco and
Ryan Burnett before Elliott's sac fly drove in
David Wolfson. Penn State scored eight unanswered, but saw its lead decreased to two after the top of the third. In the bottom of the frame, the Lions answered with five runs and eventually won 23-8.
The Garnet look to rebound on Thursday, March 10 with a single game against Penn College at 1:00 p.m.
