Garnet Complete Comeback With Five Straight Second-Half Goals

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse overcame a three-goal deficit in Wednesday night's home game against the Widener College Pride by striking for five consecutive goals to close out the game. The five-goal streak allowed Swarthmore to run down the clock in the final six minutes and secure the 10-8 victory.

Lizzie Kolln led Swarthmore with six points, dishing out three assists and netting three goals, all on free-position shots. She now has 98 goals for her career.

Kathryn Restrepo and Emily Sokol each posted a pair of goals, and Elizabeth Wainwright, Tess Wild and Briana Narzikul scored a goal each.

The Garnet trailed 5-3 entering halftime following a controversial Widener goal with no time on the clock. Swarthmore moved within one after trading goals with 17:23 to play, but Widener's lead ballooned to three, 8-5, after a pair goals separated by just one minute.

Swarthmore began to chip away as Restrepo fired in her 17th goal of the season with 13:59 to go. Kolln completed her hat trick at 13:00 on a free-position shot, pulling Swarthmore within one, 8-7, and forcing Widener to call a timeout.

Emily Sokol claimed the next draw control, darted downfield, passed to Upton who quickly located a free Briana Narzikul cutting in front of the net. Narzikul flushed her 13th goal of the year and knotted the score at 8-8.

Sokol found a wide-open Wainwright in front of the crease for the go-ahead goal with 8:30 to play. Sokol then tacked on an insurance goal with 5:53 to play, bumping Swarthmore's lead to the eventual final score of 10-8.

The Garnet won the game's final draw and besides one brief turnover, were able to play keep-away for the remainder of the game and secure the win.

Swarthmore, back at .500 for the year (4-4), hosts Bryn Mawr College on Saturday at 1 p.m.
