BOX SCORECOLLEGEVILLE, Pa – The #31 Swarthmore College men's team (4-5, 1-0 CC) blanked previously undefeated Ursinus College on Wednesday, March 23, with a 9-0 sweep. Five players earned double wins on the afternoon for the Garnet.
Sophomore
Ari Cepelewicz paired with freshman
Simon Vernier at No. 2 doubles to soundly defeat Tyler Arsenault and Dalton Lynch by a score of 8-1. At the No. 3 position, Junior
John Larkin with sophomore
Blake Oetting beat Chanton Phan and Peter Shields, 8-2. To complete the doubles sweep, sophomores
Mark Fallati and
Josh Powell overcame Max Oberholtzer and Paul Vecchio, 8-4, at No. 1.
Swarthmore remained perfect in singles action, where all matches were won in straight sets. Fallati defeated Oberholtzer, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 1, while Larkin notched another point at No. 2 over Arsenault, 6-3, 6-0. Cepelewicz and Vernier recorded identical 6-2, 6-2, wins at No. 3 and No. 4 against Lynch and Phan, respectively. At No. 5, freshman
James Hahn triumphed over Vecchio, 6-1, 6-3, and closing out the lineup at No. 6, Powell recorded a 6-0, 6-3 win against Shields.
The Garnet will next take on #20 Washington & Lee on Saturday, March 26. Play is slated to begin at home at
11:00 am.
