RADNOR, Pa.—Down by five goals in the first half, Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse stormed back to force overtime on Tuesday evening at Cabrini College. Swarthmore tied with Cabrini 15-15 with 3:05 to play in the second half to force overtime. Cabrini netted the game-winner with 2:17 left in the second half of overtime, taking the contest 16-15.
Swarthmore's
Kathryn Restrepo and
Lizzie Kolln both scored four goals.
Elizabeth Wainwright and
Elizabeth Upton each tallied two goals.
Shivani Chinnappan,
Tess Wild and
Briana Narzikul also scored.
The Garnet fell behind 8-3 midway through the first half, but made a run to close out the half. Swarthmore out-scored Cabrini 4-1 in the final 10 minutes of the period. Cabrini still led 13-9 with 17:38 to play, but a goal by Kolln set up by Wild with 16:45 to go led to another 4-1 Swarthmore run. After a Restrepo goal with 14:16 to play, Kolln struck for two straight goals and brought Swarthmore within one with 9:37 left.
The Garnet and Cavs traded goals and then Swarthmore's Narzikul fired a shot from the middle of the fan to even the game at 15-15 with 3:05 to play.
Swarthmore goalie
Connie Bowen turned away two Cabrini shots in the final 1:19 to keep the game even at 15. Bowen registered 15 saves in the loss.
Bowen denied another Cabrini shot in the first half of overtime. In the second half of OT, Kolln got a shot off, but had it saved. The Cavs cleared the ball and then netted the game-winner with 2:17 left in overtime.
Swarthmore plays Ursinus College on Saturday in its first Centennial Conference game of the year.
