Marsh, Rittenhouse Net Hat Tricks In 8-5 Win

Garnet Improve To 3-0

MADISON, N.J.—Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse improved to 3-0 to start the 2016 season, scoring eight goals for the third consecutive game.

Behind hat tricks from Cam Marsh and Dylan Rittenhouse, the Garnet earned the 8-6 road win against the Drew University Rangers on Wednesday night.

Both Marsh and Rittenhouse recorded their hat tricks in a single quarter. Marsh went off in the second quarter, netting all three in the span of 4:16. He also added an assist. Rittenhouse, a freshman, put the game away with three goals in the final 5:19 of the fourth quarter.

Senior captain Braeden DeWan tallied his first goal of the season and Matt Johnson added his fifth marker of the year.

John Calia got the nod minding the net. He recorded 10 saves for his second win of the year.

On the back line, Swarthmore defenders Christian Vik and Jack Ryan added three and two caused turnovers, respectively.

Drew scored early in Wednesday's contest, 2:12 into the game. DeWan evened the game with his unassisted goal 10 minutes later. Drew took advantage of a man-up situation to open the second quarter and scored 10 seconds into the period. The Garnet responded by going on a four-goal tear to close out the half. Jimmy Eberle located Matt Johnson for a goal with 7:58 to play, evening the score at 2-2.

Then Cam Marsh took over. Marsh scored with 6:21 to go, then again on a man-up goal assisted by Will Black with 3:10 to play, and finally capped the hat trick with 2:05 remaining following a helper from Eberle.

The Garnet's 5-2 halftime lead however evaporated in the third after three straight Rangers' goals.

Nearly all of the first 10 minutes of the fourth quarter went scoreless, but Rittenhouse returned the lead to Swarthmore with 5:19 to play.

Marsh set up Rittenhouse's second goal two minutes later. Rittenhouse then sealed the victory with another tally with 1:14 to play.
