SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse marched to a 16-5 win over the Arcadia University Knights on Saturday afternoon. The Garnet improved to 4-2 and dropped Arcadia to 2-3.
Nathan Relich continued on a tear, scoring at least four goals for the second game in a row. Relich also dealt out two assists to finish with a game-high six points. Dylan Rittenhouse finished with five points on three goals and two assists. Cam Marsh also added five points, scoring once and dealing out four helpers.
Griffin Johnston and Sam Merritt each produced a pair of goals. Will Black, Stephen Ducey, Jimmy Eberle and Tom Fitch all added a goal as well.
Cole Fox went 54 minutes in between the pipes and recorded 12 saves in the win. Freshman goalie Matt Lee saw his first action of the season, closing out the game with a save.
The Garnet captured 15-of-24 faceoffs with Mike Selverian and Stephen Ducey each going 7-for-11. Eric Levin went 1-for-1.
Swarthmore killed five Arcadia EMOs and went 1-for-3 in its own man-up situations. The Garnet were overwhelming on loose balls, collecting 43 ground balls to Arcadia's 27.
Just over a minute into the contest, freshman Griffin Johnston stung the Knights with his fourth goal of the season. Goals from Relich and Eberle gave the Garnet a 3-0 advantage with 9:31 to go in the first. The Knights got one back, but Johnston responded with his second to give Swarthmore the 4-1 lead.
The Garnet and the Knights traded goals to lead off the second quarter, but the Garnet then took over the game with five straight goals. Arcadia interuppted the run of goals to make it 10-3 at halftime.
Swarthmore scored four straight in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
Swarthmore begins Centennial Conference play next Saturday at Ursinus College.
