Garnet Roll Past Crusaders

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Three Garnet players registered hat tricks in Wednesday's 14-4 win over the Alvernia University Crusaders. Kathryn Restrepo, Lizzie Kolln and Elizabeth Upton all netted three goals as Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse overwhelmed the visiting Crusaders in Wednesday's home opener. Kolln and Upton also had two assists each to finish with a team-high five points.

Briana Narzikul and Shivani Chinnappan both scored twice, and Elizabeth Wainwright tallied one goal.

The Garnet held a 12-8 advantage on draw controls with freshman Tess Wild leading the way with five. Chinnappan snagged four draw controls.

Connie Bowen recorded seven saves in the win, helping bump Swarthmore up to .500 (2-2).

The Garnet surged to seven straight goals to open the first half.
Less than a minute into the game, Chinnappan put the Garnet on the board with an unassisted strike.

Restrepo scored her first of the game a minute later and completed the hat trick with 22:38 still remaining in the first half.

The Garnet took an 8-2 lead into halftime. After another Chinnappan goal to open the second period, Upton completed her hat trick on an unassisted goal.

Alvernia clawed for two goals in the next minute-and-change, but a pair of goals from Narzikul and Kolln obviated any idea of a Crusader's charge. Upton threaded a pass to a cutting Kolln with 7:43 to play to complete her hat trick. With a 14-4 lead, Swarthmore unlocked the running-clock advantage and held on for the win.

The Garnet continue non-conference play on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Eastern University.
