Relich, Marsh Combine For 9 Goals In OT Loss

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Sophomores Nathan Relich and Cam Marsh put on a scoring show on Tuesday afternoon for Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse, netting a combined nine goals against the College of Wooster Fighting Scots. Marsh's goal with 9.8 seconds left forced overtime. However, the Fighting Scots got the last word, sinking the sudden-victory goal 33 seconds into the first overtime period and taking the game 13-12.

Relich, who scored a career-high five goals, put Swarthmore on the board in the first quarter with 11:35 to go. The Garnet went ahead 2-0 10 minutes later after Marsh located freshman Dylan Rittenhouse for the score. Wooster evened the count with the next two goals. Swarthmore briefly regained the lead twice in the second quarter. Marsh stripped Wooster's goalie on a clear attempt and then flushed the empty-netter and less than a minute later it was Relich ripping home a low-to-low goal. The Fighting Scots matched both of those tallies and the halftime score stood at 4-4.

In the third quarter, the Fighting Scots scorched the Garnet for four straight goals, including two man-up tallies. Swarthmore's Jimmy Eberle stopped the run with a bouncing goal assisted by Marsh from X. Marsh netted his second of the game with 5:46 to go in the third, slipping between a double-team and finishing from close range off the right post.

Wooster's Josh Herold, who scored a team-high five goals, posted two of his tallies in less than a minute, giving Wooster the 10-6 advantage going into the fourth quarter.

Swarthmore and Wooster completely flipped in the fourth quarter—this period it was Swarthmore out-scoring Wooster 6-2. Relich found Marsh sneaking up to the right post and slipped a pass across the crease to him to start the fourth-quarter scoring just over a minute in. Two minutes later Relich again attacked from the left side, but instead of passing off, he executed a sly pass-fake, kept the ball for himself and dropped another goal to complete his hat trick.

Relich scored again with 9:55 remaining after a helper from Zach Peng and then scored the equalizer with 7:52 to play.

After Wooster broke the tie, Griffin Johnston knotted the game at 11-11, finishing an "alley-oop" pass from Marsh. Marsh registered four assists in the contest.

Wooster scored a man-up goal with 55 seconds left to take the 12-11 lead. Swarthmore won the resulting face-off and took a timeout to set up the final play. Marsh ripped a low-to-high shot from straight on to tie the game at 12-12 with just nine seconds to spare.

The opening faceoff of overtime went to Wooster. Matt Parmelee, Wooster's leading scorer who was goalless all afternoon, netted the game-winner 33 seconds into the extra frame.

John Calia posted 10 saves in goal in the loss.

The Garnet faceoff squad won 17-of-29 attempts. Stephen Ducey went 11-for-19 and grabbed seven ground balls. Mike Selverian won 6-of-9 faceoffs.

Swarthmore, now 3-2 overall, is 1-1 in overtime this season. The Garnet are back at home on Saturday at 1 p.m. against Arcadia University.
