MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.–
Nate Booth pitched a complete game shutout in a 6-0 win over Scranton before the Royals took the nightcap by a 4-1 score on Friday, March 11.
Booth improved to 3-0 by striking out five, scattering five hits and issuing only one walk in seven innings. Freshman
Charles Levitt finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and classmate
Conor Elliott compiled two hits, two runs and one RBI.
Roy Walker drove in two runs and
Wesley Fishburn and
Ryan Burnett each brought in one with sac flies.
With two outs in the second, Elliott singled up the middle and advanced to second after
Jackson Roberts walked. A passed ball brought Elliott to third and Levitt's RBI-single put the Garnet ahead, 1-0.
In the third, Fishburn got all the way to third on an error and was driven in on Burnett's sac fly. Walker later doubled in a run for a 3-0 Swarthmore lead. Another sac fly made it 4-0 and the Garnet topped it off with two more runs in the top of the seventh. Booth closed out the game with two groundouts and a pop fly to left field.
Scranton held Swarthmore to five hits in the second half of the doubleheader, including two by freshmen
Nico Aldaco. Junior
Brian Gibbs fell to 1-1 despite allowing only four hits and striking out eight. The Royals scored three in the top of the fourth and led 4-0 after six. In the bottom of the seventh, Aldaco led off with a double to left field and advanced to second after
David Wolfson's base hit. Walker brought him in, but a double play at the next at-bat ended the game at 4-1.
