CLEARWATER, Fla.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse struck first in Thursday evening's game against the University of Rochester Yellow Jackets. However, the Garnet dropped the final game of their spring break trip 12-5 after the Yellow Jackets rattled off seven consecutive goals to close out the first half and open the second.
Junior Briana Narzikul led the Garnet with two goals, both on successful free-position shots, and also grabbed a team-high four draw controls. Swarthmore edged Rochester on the draw 10-9.
Shivani Chinnappan, Elizabeth Wainwright and Tess Wild provided the remaining Garnet goals. Goalie Connie Bowen came up with eight saves in the loss.
Lizzie Kolln connected with Wild with 26:14 left in the first half to give Swarthmore the early advantage. Rochester netted two straight goals to gain the lead, but Narzikul evened the count with her first free-position goal.
Rochester went on a tear over the next 30 minutes, posting seven goals—four by Madeline Levy. The Garnet chipped away with a free-position goal by Chinnappan and then a goal from the left side by Wainwright set up by Elizabeth Upton. Narzikul added her second free-position goal with 4:34 to play, but the Garnet couldn't catch the Yellow Jackets and fell to 1-2 on the season. Rochester picked up its first win, improving to 1-2.
Swarthmore plays its first home game of the season on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Alvernia.
