Rachel Bronkema were edged 8-5 by Vanessa Scott and Laila El Dessouki at the No. 2 position. At No. 3, senior
Abby Schmidt and sophomore
Anna Scheibmeir overcame early deficits, but fell 9-7 to Madeline King and Nicole Schnabel.
In singles action, NYU first widened its lead, taking matches at No. 1, 2, and 3. However the latter half of the Garnet's lineup rebounded to notch the team's three points. Gao defeated Schnabel at No. 5 in straight sets, 6-1, 6-3, while freshmen
Arya Jemal and
Rachel Hechinger both clinched their matches in third set tiebreaks at No. 4 and No. 6, respectively. Jemal beat King, 6-3, 4-6, 11-9, and Hechinger triumphed 6-4, 2-6, 10-7 over Jazmin Colling.
Swarthmore will resume match play over spring break in Puerto Rico next week, taking on Meredith College on
March 7th.
