Jowdy Sets New Career High With 35; Garnet Fall To Red Devils

CARLISLE, Pa.—Senior guard Jessica Jowdy eclipsed her own her career-high points total for the fourth time this season, scoring 35 points on Saturday for Swarthmore College Women's Basketball. The Garnet, however, dropped the road game at Dickinson College 71-56.

Jowdy's 35 points, five shy of the Centennial Conference single-game record of 40 points (held by Swarthmore's Katie Robinson '02 and two others), came on a solid 14-for-26 (53.8 percent) performance from the floor. With two games to play in the regular season, Jowdy, who unfortunately lost her sophomore season to injury, is 89 points shy of 1,000 for her career.

Bridget Scott added eight points for the Garnet, knocking down a game-high six free throws. Scott had three of Swarthmore's 10 blocks in the contest. Maggie O'Neil supplied the rest, matching her season high. O'Neil, who is the Garnet's all-time record holder for blocks in a season, has swatted away 68 shots this season.

The Garnet had issues getting shots to fall from the floor in the first three periods, and were forced to play catch-up with a hot-shooting Dickinson squad that shot 51.6 percent from the floor in the first half. After posting 26 points in the first three quarters, Swarthmore surged for 30 points in the final period. The Garnet started the fourth out with a 12-0 run sparked by a Kemi Oladipo fastbreak layup and capped off an old-fashioned three-point play by Jowdy.

Swarthmore returns home for the two remaining regular season games. The Garnet host Muhlenberg at 8 p.m. on Wednesday and then Haverford at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
