BRYN MAWR, Pa.–A balanced scoring attack with four players in double figures and a strong second-half performance propelled the Swarthmore College women's basketball team (5-17) to a 74-44 win over the Bryn Mawr College Owls (3-17) on Wednesday, Feb. 10.
Maggie O'Neil tallied a double-double on 14 points and 11 rebounds to go with five assists and five blocks while
Abbey Deckard was not far off with 12 points and nine rebounds.
Jessica Jowdy scored a team-high 15 points, all from three-point range, and
Raina Williams poured in 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
Bridget Scott finished with eight points in 18 minutes of action.
Swarthmore also generated 19 turnovers and held a 49-30 advantage in rebounding with 21 offensive rebounds leading to 18 second-chance points.
Bryn Mawr, however, did not go down without a fight and erased a nine-point deficit in the second quarter to tie the game at 26 heading into halftime. In the third quarter, the Garnet used a 10-0 run in the first 3:23 to create separation from the Owls. Deckard and Jowdy each drained two shots from downtown in the quarter as the team finished 8-of-14 from the floor. The visitors erased any chance at a comeback in the fourth quarter by outscoring Bryn Mawr by a 26-6 margin with eight of nine players registering at least one point for the Garnet.
The women's basketball team looks to extend its win streak to three games when it travels to Dickinson on Saturday, Feb. 13 for a 2:00 p.m. conference showdown.
