ALLENTOWN, PA—Swarthmore College Men's Basketball rolled to an 81-49 win over the Muhlenberg College Mules on Thursday evening, improving to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference.
The Garnet shot 48.2 percent from the floor (27-for-56), their best performance so far this season. They held the hosts to 35.8 percent (19-for-53) from the floor. As has been true in every game this season, the Garnet dominated on the boards, collecting 47 rebounds to Muhlenberg's 21. Eighteen of Swarthmore's rebounds were on the offensive end. Junior forward
Robbie Walsh grabbed four offensive boards and 11 total rebounds, a game-high.
Cam Wiley, entering the game early in the first half as a substitute, got the most burn in Thursday's contest, playing 28 minutes. Wiley ended up leading all scorers with 18 points, shooting 5-for-10 from the floor with one 2-pointer and four 3-pointers. Wiley also hit 4-of-6 free throws. Senior forward
Chris Bourne pumped in 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Sophomore swingman
Henry Cousineau added 14 points on a 5-for-8 day from the field.
The Garnet had their best outing from the free-throw line this season, going 17-for-20 (85 percent).
Swarthmore had a double-digit lead within the first six minutes and pushed the lead to 20 with 2:43 to go in the first half on a layup by
Nate Shafer. The Garnet lead continued to climb in the second half and a 3-pointer by
Jim Lammers with 1:34 to play gave Swarthmore a 30-point advantage.
Swarthmore returns to Tarble Pavilion on Saturday for its third game this week. The Garnet host Dickinson College at 3 p.m.
