SWARTHMORE, Pa.–The Swarthmore College women's basketball team (0-3) fell to the prevailing Cabrini University Cavliers (1-2), 74-61, on the final day of the Tip-Off Classic on Saturday, Nov. 19.
Swarthmore ended the first half shooting 55.2 percent from field goal range and 60.0 percent behind the arc, compared to Cabrini's 29.7 percent and 42.9 percent, but Swarthmore's 23 turnovers proved damaging to the loss.
Garnet freshman
Lindsay O'Sullivan showed her potential this weekend as she nearly came away with a double-double, with 14 points and nine rebounds, and was named to the All Tournament Team.
Right behind O'Sullivan was junior
Hayley Raymond, who had 11 points and one steal, while senior
Maggie O'Neil contributed 10 points, nine of which were from long range.
Cabrini trailed 32-39 at the half, but came back firing in the second. They finished the second half 55.6 percent from long range and ended with 42 total points compared to Swarthmore's 22. Guard Erin Dodds finished with a game high 22 points in 32 minutes.
Tied at 50 apiece going into the fourth quarter, Swarthmore hoped to continue to push their fast-paced offense and regain the lead with their full court pressure defense.
Swarthmore gained a one-point advantage on a free by Raymond, but were held scoreless for five and a half minutes as the Cavaliers established control. The Garnet were able to trim their deficit to single digits, but could not catch Cabrini.
Swarthmore remains at home for its Centennial Conference opener against Washington College on Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 6 p.m.
