HACKETTSTOWN, N.J.—Four players scored double-digits on Saturday as Swarthmore College Men's Basketball edged the Centenary College (N.J.) Cyclones on the road 86-80.
Sophomore
Cam Wiley led the Garnet in just 16 minutes off the bench with 19 points, getting 10 of those points from the free throw line.
Zack Yonda added 18 points with seven boards.
Matt Brennan added 14 points and
Robbie Walsh chipped in 10.
Swarthmore shot 24-for-58 (43.1 percent) from the floor and 74.3 percent from the charity stripe. The Garnet shot significantly better in the first half, building a 22-point lead. Swarthmore went 50 percent from the field and 81.8 percent from the line in the first half.
In the latter part of the first half, the Garnet went on a five-and-a-half minute run in which they out-scored the Cyclones 17-1.
The Garnet lead reached 24 points early in the second half. With just 3:15 left in the contest, the Cyclones pushed to an 11-0 run, pulling within five with 1:16 left. The home team came within two points with just 23 seconds to go.
Wiley sunk two free throws on the other end, and then after a defensive stop, Swarthmore sealed the game with five seconds left with two free throws by Yonda.
The Garnet out-rebounded the Cyclones 51-33. Swarthmore, however, committed 21 turnovers to Centenary's eight.
Freshman
Nate Shafer recorded five blocks for the second straight game.
The Garnet host Washington College in the first Centennial Conference game of the year on Tuesday at 8 p.m.
