GETTYSBURG, Pa.—With a brace from
Katie Dougherty and a goal from
Mele Johnson, No. 16 Swarthmore College Women's Soccer took care of the Gettysburg College Bullets 3-1 on the road on Saturday.
The Garnet improved to 11-1 on the year with the win (4-1 Centennial), and Gettysburg slid to 6-5 (2-2) with the loss.
Sydney Hunter recorded eight saves in the win, her seventh on the year.
Swarthmore struck in the 32nd minute with a header by Dougherty off a corner kick from
Hannah Lichtenstein from the right side. However, just 28 seconds later, Gettysburg's Isabel Klatt scored to even the game.
Early in the second half, Swarthmore took the lead with another Lichtenstein-Dougherty connection.
Lichtenstein dealt out her fifth assist, setting up Dougherty for a shot from the top of the box and her sixth goal of the season.
Swarthmore capped off the scoring in the 84th minute with an unassisted goal by
Mele Johnson, her first goal of the year. The Garnet outshot the Bullets 18-11 with 12 shots on goal to the host's nine.
The Garnet return to the field on Thursday with a home game at 7 p.m. against Ursinus College.
